Age-Based Club Crew Qualifications

Deadline for expressing interest: 11/28/21. Register Here to be considered!

USA-ORCA will be sending a maximum of 6 Club Crews per division (both men and women) to compete at the 2022 IVF World Club Sprint (WCS) Championship at Dorney Lake in Windsor, England from August 7th through 16th.

How will these Club Crews be selected?

The process for selecting the 2022 Club Crews will be like no other since we cannot hold national sprint time trials. Please note, the 2024 IVF World Club Sprint Championship will have a selection process that is quite different.  For this year, PNWORCA’s Area Rep and IVF representative will collect club crew data and select the first and alternate crews.

What does the selection process look like?

  • Each of the 4 Member Associations may select two crews for each division: a First
  • Crew and an Alternate Crew.
  • Each First Crew will be guaranteed a place to represent USA-ORCA at the 2022 IVF WSC and take one of the six available crew positions.
  • The Alternate Crew may be selected to race in the division if a crew position is available.
  • If there are two crews in any given age and gender division, the crews will be asked to run a time trial and submit it to the PNWORCA Area Rep for selection.

The USAORCA Race Committee will select the crews for any open crew positions. These crews will be selected from the pool of Alternate Crews put forth by their Associations.

What are the qualifying times and how are they verified?

Each crew (First and Alternate) are expected to meet the minimum times (based on 500 meters) as specified by the USA-ORCA WCS times-table – see below.

Note: All times estimated from the 2018 Va’a world sprints repecharge times where available. Clubs should strive to meet +/- 5 seconds of these qualifying times to consider themselves competitive for 2022 world sprints. Master 70 V6 includes a straight 500 and a 1 turn 500 event. IVF has added 75 and 80 divisions for 2022, these are estimated.

Entry Submissions: Entry submissions by the Member Association Representative must include:

  • First Crew or Alternate Crew designation
  • Crew age division, gender and para/non-para
  • Name of the crew and name of club
  • Verification of OC-6 500-meter qualifying time

Para Va’a Qualifications

USAORCA would be proud to have our para va’a paddlers participate in the London World Sprints Championship.

Races include V1 500 meter and 250 meter, V6 500 meter coed, V6 1000meter coed turn event, and V12 500 meter coed event. Para Va’a athletes must be classified by the ICF/IVF classification program and are then provided a ‘point’ status for V6 and V12 crews (total crew points are used to approve the entry), note that IVF includes extended classifications beyond ICF’s.  All Para Va’a events will take place during the 2 Elite days of racing.

If your association or club has paddlers interested in participating in this division, please email us at info@usaorca.org with the subject line “Para Va’a Athlete” or Sign Up Here.
