BBOP Winter Series #4 Set for February 21, 2026

The BBOP Winter Series #4, hosted by the Bellingham Bay Outrigger Paddlers, will take place on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Marine Park in Fairhaven, Bellingham. This annual small boat race features a 6 mile course designed to provide a challenging and scenic paddling experience in a unique coastal environment.

The course begins and ends at Marine Park, following the etched limestone shoreline past Clark’s Point, looping through Mud Bay before returning to the start. Paddlers can expect views of local wildlife and the San Juan Islands along the route. The race is open to OC1 and OC2, Surfski 1 and 2, SUP, and V1 classes.

Check in begins at 8:30 AM, followed by a mandatory safety meeting at 9:30 AM, with the race starting promptly at 10:00 AM. Finish times are expected between 10:45 and 11:30 AM, with hot soup available around the fire pits from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and awards at noon.

All boats must be seaworthy and appropriate for open water conditions. PFDs and whistles are required, and paddlers must be capable of self rescue in the conditions present on race day. Surfskis, outrigger canoes, and stand up paddleboards must have a functional leash attaching paddler to craft. High visibility clothing and a VHF radio or cell phone are recommended.

Race Director for the event is Julie Van Dooren.

Head west on Old Fairhaven Parkway for 1.4 miles until it turns into Donovan Ave (at the intersection with 12th St).
